What is Osteopathy?

Osteopathy is stream of diagnosis and treatment for a wide range of medical conditions. It is based on the principle that the well-being of an individual depends on the skeleton, muscles, ligaments and connective tissues functioning smoothly together.
For your body to work well, its structure must also work well. So osteopaths work to restore your body to a state of balance using touch, Physical manipulation, stretching, and osteopathic massage to increase the mobility of joints, to relieve muscle tension, to enhance the blood and never supply to tissue, and to help your body’s own healing mechanisms. They also provide advice on posture and exercise to aid recovery, promote health, and prevent symptoms recurring.

Case History

You will be asked details about your symptoms, your body generally, and social situation that may be impacting on your problem.

Examination

Assessment of area causing symptoms, also your posture and asking you to do some slow gentle movements to gain an understanding of how your body is moving.
Your diagnosis is discussed with you and advice about the types of treatment that will help. Sometimes a treatment other than osteopathy might be helpful, and you may need to see another healthcare professional.

Treatment

Treatment is safe, gentle, and generally pain free. Techniques used are highly specific to the patient, often involving osteopathic soft tissue work, stretching, gently putting your joints through their full range of movement, and manipulative, techniques. As part of an ongoing treatment plan, your Osteopath may recommend lifestyle and postural changes, stretches, and exercises.
